The Mason Dixon 20-20 Lite and there is a lighthouse in the logo. What’s up with that? Sometimes looks can be deceiving; sometimes the names can be even more so. Afterall, we gave you ‘Dorks Over America’ (diners), ‘Seeking Higher Ground’ (places of worship), ‘Hole Dam’ (holes, dams, and plugs), ‘Quarter for your Thoughts’ (George Washington), and, thanks to 09 IBR winner Jim Owen, the infamous ‘Think Right.’
So what can you expect in the Mason Dixon Lite? That’s a fair question. Count on the usual mix of contemplation and frivolity that makes the Mason Dixon 20-20 THE event to ride. Here’s what we can tell you:
When will it be? May 28-30, 2010.
How long is the rally? Start time Saturday morning, ends Sunday Afternoon, approximately 36 hours of rally time
Where? Hagerstown, MD. Rally host info on the schedule page.
How much does it cost? $115 for solos, $225 for 2-up (small handling charge for online registration with PayPal). These are the same prices as last year. Registration ends 4/24 so don't delay.
What’s my entry come with? Besides the rally itself, every entry comes with some cool rally swag (official rally shirt is an optional charge), the starting dinner, and a finishers’ banquet.
I need someone to blame; who can I blame this year’s theme on? Don Arthur.
What rules will you be using? Thanks to Team Strange, we will again be using the Team Strange Uniform Rules, with the following “local rule variations” and “ACR digital image rules.”
Do I need small US Flags, again, this year? Yes
Will I be visiting Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery? Only if you want to be considered a finisher.
Rest bonuses- I hear you have mandatory rest bonuses. We do. There will also be a mileage cap. We require all riders to manage their routes for both rest and efficiency; our events are not simply ‘sit there, twist that’ where pure speed can nearly make up for poor routing choices- it’s about management of the rider’s time, distance, points, and fatigue. Throw in a few hundred miles of 2 lane twisties and you have an average MD2020.
What about dimes minted in 2000? Will I need 2000 dimes again? No, that was last year. Please pay attention.
How Does This Work? Go [here] for an explanation of how our rallies work.
May I get an Iron Butt Association Certificate for my ride? Sure if you meet the qualifications for the ride; we will have the forms ready to submit to the IBA. Just complete your portion, select what you’d like to order and send them the proper amount of funds- no receipts or additional paperwork required. Current IBA members will receive completed forms upon request.
How many 2009 Iron Butt Rally finishers will be in attendance? All the ones that enter, plus some members of staff. Rumor has it that other than the IBR staff itself, our staff has the highest average IBR finishing position along with the current DNS record holder.
What about IBA5k riders; will they be represented? Hopefully they have heeded the words of their rallymaster. The MD2020 is some of the best preparation a rider can make for a multi-day rally, short of riding in a multi-day rally.
